Job Description: Afterschool Program Teacher/Counselor

The Quest Zone Afterschool Program is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced school-age teacher to join our growing team!

The individual in this position will assist in general classroom management, supervision, and implement a comprehensive brain-based academic program.

Applicant should be available to work Monday-Friday from 1:30 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. Salary is based upon credentials and experience.

Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

  1. Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of The Sunshine House / The Quest Zone, Common Core standards, and National Afterschool Association standards.
  2. Treating children with dignity and respect, and meeting the needs of individual children with awareness of their interests, special talents and needs, cultural background, and individual learning styles.
  3. Assisting with the ordered arrangement, appearance, and learning environment of the afterschool program.
  4. Plan practice opportunities that are structured for maximum participation (e.g., individual, partner, and small-group activities; non-elimination activities; activities that require no wait time).
  5. Assisting with providing maximum opportunities daily that are conducive to learning.
  6. Teach skills and activities that transfer into continuous learning outside of the afterschool program.
  7. Motivate children to be physically active by implementing a variety of recreational activities
  8. Organize afterschool experiences to include planning activities that promote student interaction, address real world applications, and support the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy (RBT).
  9. Infuse technology with project based learning activities to build knowledge and enhance creative expression.
  10. Communicate clearly and appropriately with children, parents, staff and others.
  11. Demonstrate through daily actions and work habits the desire to provide outstanding customer service and competitive value.
  12. Assist in public-relations events sponsored by The Sunshine House / The Quest Zone and represent the company in a positive, professional manner.
  13. Participate in staff meetings, recommended training programs, classes, conferences, and other aspects of professional growth and complete the training hours as required by The Sunshine House and the state, including after-hours sessions, maintaining current knowledge of afterschool practices.
  14. Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of our program.

The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared, must meet the requirements of the state licensing agency, and be physically and mentally fit to care for children.  These requirements include but may not be limited to the following:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent and be appropriately qualified for the assigned age group through education, training, experience, and/or personal qualities to meet all state qualifications.
  2. Must maintain state in-service training requirements.
  3. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, and be able see, hear, and respond to children’s needs, including reaching high, stooping to the child’s level, sitting on the floor and getting up, and being able to reach a child 20 – 30 feet away within 15 seconds without danger to the staff person’s health.  Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time, at least 95% of the day.
  4. Be able to determine cognitive, social, and physical needs of children in written and verbal forms of the English language and at a level that 90-95% of the parents and staff are able to understand and, in turn, respond to.
  5. Be able to handle, in a positive way, the demands that contact with many children and parents bring every day.  This includes stress, tension, noise, and interpersonal conflicts.  Must able to physical and mentally react immediately to unexpected circumstances.

Job Description: Site Director

TITLE: Afterschool Program Director

The Quest Zone is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced school-age educator to manage a growing afterschool program.

The individual in this position will be responsible for operating the afterschool program in accordance with best practices in education, the company’s policies, state licensing regulations, and National Afterschool Association standards.

Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

  1. Planning, supervising, and implementing the school’s program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of The Sunshine House / The Quest Zone Afterschool Program, Common Core standards, and National Afterschool Association standards.
  2. Treating children, families, staff and others with dignity and respect, and meeting the needs of individuals with awareness of their interests, cultural background, special talents and needs.
  3. Implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and a system of ongoing observation based assessment in order to assess the developmental levels of the children, and the overall effectiveness of the school.
  4. Demonstrating through daily actions and work habits the desire to provide outstanding customer service and competitive value.
  5. Enrolling and partnering with parents of children, treating them with respect, welcoming them into the school, and providing frequent and varied parent involvement opportunities
  6. Implementing public relations events sponsored by The Sunshine House / The Quest Zone and representing the company in a positive, professional manner.
  7. Recruiting, hiring, supervising, and empowering staff, through support, training, and understanding of their talents and individual needs to implement best practices for children and their families.
  8. Being responsible for the orderly arrangement, appearance, and learning environment of the afterschool program and educational equipment and materials.
  9. Maintaining cost control according to budgeted guidelines while providing quality services.
  10. Maintaining accurate accounting and reporting according to company guidelines.
  11. Participating in professional development opportunities for self and others, and completing the training hours as required by The Sunshine House / The Quest Zone, and by the state, including after-hours sessions.

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, and be able to see, hear, and respond to children’s needs, without danger to the staff person’s health.  Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time, at least 95% of the day.  Must be able to evaluate and solve problems and work with challenging situations, while maintaining positive interpersonal relationships.
  4. Must be able to communicate clearly in both verbal and written English.
  5. Must be able to handle, in a positive way, the demands that contact with many children and parents bring every day. This includes stress, tension, noise, and interpersonal conflicts.  Must able to physically and mentally react immediately to unexpected circumstances.

Job Description: STEM Instructor

The Quest Zone Afterschool Program provides programming for elementary-age children in the areas of after-school programs, in-class workshops, preschool programs, and summer camps. Instructors will implement a comprehensive STEM and the Arts-based academic program in The Quest Zone Afterschool Program. Applicant should be available Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:00-5:30 and Friday from 3:30pm-5:30pm. Salary is based upon credentials and experience.

Position Description:

Plan practice opportunities that are structured for maximum participation (e.g., individual, partner, and small-group activities.

Build awareness and enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and math.

Instruct fun, hands-on science clubs for elementary students during the after-school hours at local schools in your area.

Teach skills and activities that transfer into continuous learning outside of the afterschool program.

Motivating children to become collaborators, critical thinkers, etc. by implementing a variety of activities.

Organizing afterschool experiences to include planning activities that promote student interaction, address real world applications, and support the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy (RBT).Infuse technology with project based learning activities to build knowledge and enhance creative expression. Position can be used as a paid or unpaid internship.

Job Description: After School Teacher; Summer Camp Teacher

The Quest Zone is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced school-age teacher to manage our Afterschool and Summer Camp Programs. The ideal candidate is creative, professional, and has experience working with children ages 5-12 in an afterschool setting.

Salary is based upon credentials and experience.

Our Teachers:

  1. Plan, implement and oversee The Quest Zone afterschool program and summer camp program for children ages 5-12 years.
  2. Treat children with dignity and respect, meeting the needs of individual children with awareness of their interests, special talents and needs, cultural background, and individual learning styles.
  3. Plan opportunities that are structured for maximum participation (e.g., individual, partner, and small-group activities; non-elimination activities; activities that require no wait time).
  4. Teach skills and activities that transfer into continuous learning outside of the afterschool program.
  5. Motivate children to be physically active by implementing a variety of recreational activities, including the NFL Play 60 program.
  6. Hold a valid driver’s license and transport children safely in a company bus daily during the school year and on weekly field trips during the summer.
  7. Communicate clearly and appropriately with children, parents, staff and others.
  8. Participate in staff meetings and complete training hours as required for state licensing.
  9. Maintain current knowledge of afterschool practices.
  10. Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of our program.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent; higher level degrees preferred.
  2. Must have at least six months experience working in a licensed childcare or afterschool program.
  3. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
  4. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, and be able see, hear, and respond to children’s needs, including reaching high, stooping to the child’s level, sitting on the floor and getting up, and being able to reach a child 20 – 30 feet away within 15 seconds without danger to the staff person’s health.  Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time, at least 95% of the day.
